Quite frankly, dear reader, book numero cuatro of Lisa Kleypas’ romantic adventures of the Hathaway clan, MARRIED BY MORNING, brought on a bit of a blush. Now I’ll tell you why…to quote one of the memorable villains of the Austin Powers franchise—it’s “Dead Sexy!” But then again, I knew once this couple got together there would have to be some potent fireworks.

He is everything she wants to avoid…

For two years, Catherine Marks has been a paid companion to the Hathaway sisters—a pleasant position, with one caveat. Her charges’ older brother, Leo Hathaway, is thoroughly exasperating. Cat can hardly believe that their constant arguing could mask a mutual attraction. But when one quarrel ends in a sudden kiss, Cat is shocked at her powerful response—and even more so when Leo proposes a dangerous liaison.

She is not all what she seems…

Leo must marry and produce an heir within a year to save his family home. Catherine’s respectable demeanor hides a secret that would utterly destroy her. But to Leo, Cat is intriguing and infernally tempting, event to a man resolved never to love again. The danger Cat tried to outrun is about to separate them forever—unless two wary lovers can a way to banish the shadows and give in to their desires.

With two people like Leo Hathaway, an admittedly proud rogue of the first water and a tart-tongue proper ladies companion like Catherine Marks, who has no qualms about telling her employer exactly how the cow ate the cabbage and vice versa, the sparks aren’t going to fly when they come together—they are going to explode!

…the sparks aren’t going to fly when they come together—they are going to explode!

In what has to be the most titillating tale thus far in the series, there is also a strong thread of absolute sweetness, witty humor and endearing heartbreak as they each must separately put aside painful memories from the past and learn not only to put trust in themselves again, but each other as well. Through the skilled hand and wonderfully imaginative mind of Lisa Kleypas, we are granted the privilege of taking this journey with them and hugging the memory forever after in our hearts.

It should also be noted that the talented Lisa Kleypas is without a doubt the most remarkable tease. Known for having a stable of unforgettable, book-hopping characters, it seems as though she can’t help, whether through divine providence or sheer luck, infusing her stories with people that capture our interest and give us hope of seeing them again—perhaps stepping from the sidelines and onto the center stage with their own stories.

In the case of Leo and Catherine, from the moment these two meet for the first time in Chapter 8 of SEDUCE ME AT SUNRISE to many head-butting encounters in TEMPT ME AT TWILIGHT, not only do you see the potential for a star-crossed romance—you begin to crave it. When it became very apparent through the short tease at the end of the book that their story would be next—I’ll just say that it’s a good thing no one had one of those nanny cam’s hidden in my living room. (I’m not the most graceful dancer.)

To be certain, Kleypas’ perfect tribute to Leo and Catherine’s story lived up to my goofy, midnight, Charlie Brown-dancing expectations and with a fresh tease at the end for the June 29th, release of charmingly animal-mad, Beatrix’s story, LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON the summer is looking brighter and brighter.
