ONCE UPON A TOWER, the fifth in author Eloisa James’ Fairy Tale series, takes on the enchanting story of a cello playing Rapunzel and her extremely organized, but charming Prince.
“A duke fell in love…
Gowan Stoughton of Craigievar, Duke of Kinross, values order and self-control above all else. So when he meets a lady as serene as she is beautiful, he promptly asks for her hand in marriage.
With a lady…
Edie—whose passionate temperament is the opposite of serene—had such a high fever at her own debut ball that she didn’t notice anyone, not even the notoriously elusive Duke of Kinross. When her father accepts his offer… she panics.
And when their marriage night isn’t all it could be, she pretends.
In a tower.
But Edie’s inability to hide her feelings makes pretending impossible, and when their marriage implodes, she retreats to a tower—locking Gowan out.
Now Gowan faces his greatest challenge. Neither commands nor reason work with his spirited young bride. How can he convince her to give him the keys to the tower…
When she already has the keys to his heart?”
You can never go wrong with a book by Eloisa James and her latest series of books, based on beloved fairy tales, are nothing short of magical.
Complicated by only their own, sometimes innocently bumbling efforts to please each other as young lovers often do, Edie and Gowan’s story is impossibly sweet and at times so deeply emotional that you are guaranteed to feel a lump rising in your throat.
I really loved how tightly knit this story was, keeping the main focus on the hero and heroine without a lot of complicated secondary sub-stories that can sometimes distract a reader. Although, the small additional cast of characters surrounding them during their journey play important roles to enhance the story as a whole, the focus remains true.
An exceptional job by an exceptional author and I cannot wait to read what she comes up with next!
