Review

New York Times Bestselling Author Elizabeth Hoyt has created an unforgettable cast of characters with her Maiden Lane Series and continues their story with LORD OF DARKNESS, book 5 in the series.

WHEN STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT

He lives in the shadows. The mysterious masked avenger known as the Ghost of St. Giles, his only goal is to protect the innocent of London. Until the night he confronts a fearless lady pointing a pistol at his head—and realizes she is his wife . . .

BECOME LOVERS…

Lady Margaret Reading has vowed to kill the Ghost of St. Giles—the man who murdered her one true love. Returning to London, and the man she hasn’t seen since their wedding day, Margaret does not recognize the man behind the mask. Fierce, commanding, and dangerous, the notorious Ghost of St. Giles is everything she feared he would be—and so much more . . .

DESIRE IS THE ULTIMATE DANGER

When passion flares these two intimate strangers can’t keep from revealing more of themselves than they had ever planned. But when Margaret learns the truth—that the Ghost is her husband, Godric St. John—the game is up and the players must surrender . . . to the temptation that could destroy them both.

They say, “It’s always the quiet ones you have to watch out for…” and that is certainly true for Mr. Godric St. John. Cast in the role of the quiet, steadfast and scholarly friend in the previous installments of this series it was with delight and surprise that I read the teaser for this book.

These two characters are superbly written and the story incredibly moving.

The “Ghost of St. Giles” is Ms. Hoyt’s version of a 18th century BATMAN, a masked vigilante of justice who stalks the seedy back alleyway’s of London, protecting and rescuing those in need. No one would ever suspect St. John of being the man behind the mask and certainly not his estranged wife, Lady Margaret.

Believing the “Ghost” responsible for the death of her lost love and set on a path of vengeance, Margaret arrives in London determined to see him dead, but that’s not the only reason. She wants a child and the only way to go about it is by seducing the stranger she married.

These two characters are superbly written and the story incredibly moving.

Blinded by the grief of their mutual losses, separated by the secrets that surround them and each determined to ignore the growing desire and feelings between them, Godric and Margaret’s story is one of the most touching and engaging books that I have ever read!

DUKE OF MIDNIGHT, book 6 in the series is scheduled to be released in October. Be sure to read the exciting teaser at the end to find another “Ghost of St. Giles” revealed. You won’t want to miss it!
