Review

Last year when the first book in the Eternity Gambit series, DEVIL TO PAY, by Renee Bernard was released, I was in a bit of a reading funk. But the story was so freshly unique, witty and so downright adorable that it single-handedly revived my love for reading all over again. So it was a no-brainer to snatch up a copy of DEVIL MAY CARE when it hit the virtual book shelves a few weeks ago.

When you are a Take Down Agent in the Temptations Department in H.E.LLc, the good news is that you get out of the office every once in a while.  The bad news is that there isn’t a human being targeted and “served” who is smiling after you’re done, so customer appreciation isn’t one of the perks.

Lillith is the best demon Temptress in the business and has a sexy scorched earth policy that leaves nothing standing in her wake. So when her next assignment looks like ‘low-hanging fruit’ as a former professional football player and sugar sweet do-gooder, she’s prepared for a quick record-setting Take Down.  Unfortunately, no one has let her in on the twist.

Her target is actually a Good Guy, something Lilly has never seen.  So this is going to be one for the books as Lilly faces the unthinkable: She’s the one in danger of falling in love!

There has to be a touch of magic in a book that can so completely embrace your undivided attention that you forget about everything else until that final swipe to the last page. Whether it’s magic or just the insanely talented writing of author Renee Bernard, Lillith and Jackson’s adventures in love, lust, angst and snowball fights kept this reader in a protective bubble of reading bliss from start to finish.

Like any magic trick, it’s impossible to explain how it’s done without giving away so much that you spoil the fun, so I won’t go into any great detail about the characters or story specifically except to say…

Easily my favorite book so far in 2015 and I am sure you will love it as well.

Lillith steals every scene, as the ultimate temptress is suddenly being overtaken by hilarious situations, emotions and “human” conditions that throw her for a loop at every turn.

While Jackson is the very definition of a “Good Guy”, which only adds to the puzzle of why this mission is such a high priority for the upper management that Lily’s future (or lack thereof) is hanging in the balance.

The mystery surrounding the true purpose of mission, the metamorphosis that takes place within Lily, the sheer wonderfulness of Jackson and the ultimate proof that love can cross the divide between anything…even Heaven and Hell, are only small parts of why this story is one that you won’t want to miss.

Easily my favorite book so far in 2015 and I am sure you will love it as well.

Be sure to check out the introduction to this wonderful series, DEVIL TO PAY and keep a watch out for when the third comes out later this year. I know I will be!
