Review

The Maiden Lane series by New York Times Bestselling author, Elizabeth Hoyt just keeps getting better and better!

In the latest, DARLING BEAST, we are reunited with Apollo Greaves just months after his escape from a brutal stay in Bedlam, which has left him without a voice and hiding out in the charred remains of his friend’s theatre/pleasure garden in the guise of a simple gardener.

A MAN CONDEMNED . . .

Falsely accused of murder and mute from a near-fatal beating, Apollo Greaves, Viscount Kilbourne has escaped from Bedlam. With the Crown’s soldiers at his heels, he finds refuge in the ruins of a pleasure garden, toiling as a simple gardener. But when a vivacious young woman moves in, he’s quickly driven to distraction . . .

A DESPERATE WOMAN . . .

London’s premier actress, Lily Stump, is down on her luck when she’s forced to move into a scorched theater with her maid and small son. But she and her tiny family aren’t the only inhabitants—a silent, hulking beast of a man also calls the charred ruins home. Yet when she catches him reading her plays, Lily realizes there’s more to this man than meets the eye.

OUT OF ASHES, DESIRE FLARES

Though a scorching passion draws them together, Apollo knows that Lily is keeping secrets. When his past catches up with him, he’s forced to make a choice: his love for Lily…or the explosive truth that will set him free.

When our heroine, Lily hears story about a “monster” living in the gardens surrounding their temporary home in the old theatre, from her precocious son, she is worried about his safety and soon investigates, discovering a muddy, mute giant in their midst.

Sweet, sexy, endearing and filled with old characters you love and new characters that you want to learn so much more about…

Fortunately for this budding romance his disguise is soon revealed and she is able to see through the caring way he treats her son, a very accident prone greyhound and herself, that this giant is a gentle one and incredibly attractive as well.

As two souls who have felt very little true affection and friendship in their lives, Apollo and Lily are each, just what the other needs and never truly realized they were missing until they found each other.

Although the obstacles standing against them are great as Apollo still has the triple charge of murder hanging over his head and Lily has a huge secret of her own to protect, they still find their way to move beyond the friendship they have forged and the passion they share, to find love, redemption and ultimately happiness.

Sweet, sexy, endearing and filled with old characters you love and new characters that you want to learn so much more about, DARLING BEAST is a wonderful addition to this impressive collection of stories in the Maiden Lane series.

I’m looking forward with great anticipation when the next story, teased for you after the epilogue, arrives on book shelves and I’m sure you will be too.
