2010 Highlight: Barry Eisler On Taking Books to Film

Having my first book, Rain Fall, made into a movie last year by Sony Pictures Japan was a great experience.  Fascinating and fun.  I visited the set, which was very cool; I met Gary Oldman and Akira Emoto, two actors I like a lot; and I attended the premiere, which was a blast.  If you want to know more, here’s my writeup of the premiere in Tokyo; photos of set and the premiere; and a short video of the premiere (if you can stand my mangled Japanese).

FEATURED ARTICLE: Brad Parks- Nobody Does it Better

EYES OF THE INNOCENT hit the shelves recently and reviewers are raving about book two in the Carter Ross Mystery Series. The envious praise for Brad Parks’ skill at writing both humor and suspense inspired me to do a little investigative reporting myself.

You see, the hero of FACES OF THE GONE and EYES OF THE INNOCENT is Carter Ross, an investigative reporter with a highbrow education and a nose for trouble. Carter is intriguingly described as a dashing six-foot-one man with brown hair and blue eyes, who is funny and brave. So, you can understand why I had to snoop around for the guy, right? I mean what woman can resist such a combination.

I’m still looking for the man, but I did learn that Carter Ross was “born and raised in well-to-do Millburn. He attended some of New Jersey’s finest prep schools then spent four years at Amherst College. Still in his early 30′s, he has landed a plum gig: Investigative reporter at The Newark Eagle-Examiner, a job that plunges this white-shoe WASP into some of “the seamiest places the city has to offer.”

Review: Collateral Damage by J.L. Saint

Let me just say that when I was honored with the invitation to join the stable of extraordinary reviewers of NovelsAlive.tv, it was understood that I would not be reviewing "romance novels." I’m more of a non-fiction and/or military thriller kinda gal. I’m definitely "rough around the edges" and like my reading material to be the same. I have no patience for the "heaving, pearly scoops of pebbling flesh" prose that most romance writers employ. Suffice it to say, when I was asked to read J.L. Saint’s new ebook original, Collateral Damage, by Samhain Publishing, Ltd., I raised an eyebrow at the description "romantic suspense."

Collateral Damage is the first book in Ms. Saint’s "Silent Warrior Series" which intends to feature a military man or woman as the hero or heroine of the story. The first few books in the series involve members of a Delta Team whose mission was to extract high-profile hostages from a radical group in Lebanon. The mission goes bad, leaving a swath of physical and emotional destruction amid the survivors.

FEATURED ARTICLE: A Modern Day Renaissance Woman – Sheila Clover-English

Where can one possibly begin the tale of Sheila English, the CEO of Circle of Seven Productions which is now part of Reader’s Entertainment Group? Do I start with her as a child growing up in California with dreams of being an author one day. Or tell about a woman whose love of story and writing led her to become an award winning script writer? There is so much to say that almost anything written would fail to grasp the essence of this dynamic woman or the force she has become in book marketing. Yet, I will still attempt to share with you who Sheila is and for what she stands.

She is a woman of brilliant vision. Years ago, Sheila realized that marketing the written word with visual images and well chosen sound bites would revolutionize the way books were sold. She was told her idea had no merit. She was told she would fail, but she quietly pursed her vision and made it happen. Yet, this part of the story doesn’t stop here. Sheila continually expands her multi-media approach to marketing story via new and innovative technology.
