Lynsay Sands: Mixtress of Love and Laughter

According to the World English Dictionary a “Romantic Comedy” is:

Comedy with love story: a humorous film, play, or novel about a love story that ends happily.”

Personally, I think their definition is a little out of whack. A “Romantic Comedy” is at its heart a love story first (whether it ends ‘happily’ or not), with great moments of humor blended in to add a bit of laughter to the mix. When the mix is just right, you have a story that not only lifts up your heart but tickles the funny bone until it’s not safe to pick up a drink without fear of damaging your nasal cavity.

“The Desperate Duchesses” series by Eloisa James

Move over ladies of Wisteria Lane, the Desperate Duchesses created by Eloisa James, in a six installment book series, put your antics to shame. Set in the delightfully decadent Georgian period, when the word “naughty” was more than an adjective but a way of life, this series follows the lives consecutively and independently of six strong and sensual woman and the men who have a hard time trying to decide if they wish to tame them, bed them or wed them.

Inspired by the ABC series Desperate Housewives and rich with the scintillating taste, style and atmosphere of Georgian era England, this series created by the marvelously talented Eloisa James is one any true lover of historical romantic fiction couldn’t help but love.

“The Care and Taming of a Rogue” By Suzanne Enoch

Following a weekend trip to the local used book store to feed my need, the one that had me ordering pizza delivery instead of wasting precious reading time fixing dinner for my hungry den of wolves, was The Care and Taming of a Rogue. Right off the bat I knew that this story would be worth the inevitable heartburn—a small sacrifice to make for such an extraordinary romance.

I want to be a Bridgerton

If one were given the opportunity to step into the pages of a book and live inside the world of an author’s creation, then I would happily choose any one of the Bridgerton series novels by Julia Quinn.

This eight book series takes on a life of its own through the marvelous characters that live within, most notably of course, the Bridgerton siblings themselves Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hiyacinth. Named alphabetically, this reader would have been very happy if Lady Violet, the family matriarch, had produced an Ichabod or Isabella as well, so that there might have been another story to tell.
