Review

LOVER BE MINE by New York Times Bestselling author, Nicole Jordan, is the second book in this author’s Legendary Lovers Series, which redefines the usual “matchmakers” tale in an entirely entertaining and utterly charming way.

This series features—the appropriately named—family, Wilde, who not only accepts their forbearer’s notorious history for creating scandal, but embraces it openly. So, when it’s time for the newest generation to begin finding their perfect mates, the idea of looking to famous romantic masterpieces for inspiration in their quest, isn’t as farfetched as one might think.

“As the wickedly seductive Wilde cousins seek true love by taking a page from history’s legendary love stories, Lord Jack Wilde plays a determined Romeo courting an enchanting Juliet.

The last thing Sophie Fortin expects at a masquerade ball is a dazzling kiss from a pirate. Her desire quickly falters when she learns her masked gentleman is devilishly scandalous Lord Jack, a member of the captivating Wilde clan—and a man she’s forbidden to acknowledge. But when Jack begins a breathtaking seduction, Sophie can barely resist.

Jack never imagined that the daughter of his family’s mortal enemy would awaken such fierce passion within him—until one unforgettable kiss changes his mind forever. Soon, Jack is hell-bent on winning Sophie’s hand, going so far as to abduct her to save her from marrying a rival nobleman. Determined to woo Sophie and her unyielding parents, Jack is faced with the one decision he’d sworn never to make. The secret heir to a prince, Jack has spurned his royal heritage for years… but for Sophie he’ll risk all to turn a legacy of heartbreak into love ever after.”

“Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny…”

Or in the case of this story, the scene is set in 1816 London, directly on the heels of the successful match between Lord Jack’s brother, Ash and his lovely “Princess Charming” Maura.

With her theory now proven to be remarkably effective, family matchmaker, Kate has set her sights on finding the perfect Juliet to Jack’s Romeo—minus the dying part, of course.

Readers will no doubt love riding along as a spectator…

Jack is content in his role as the loveable rogue and hasn’t the slightest inclination to marry, especially if it means he risks his heart to heartbreak for the umpteenth time. Certain his adopted sister Kate and young cousin Skye’s machinations will come to nothing—when the supposed object of his destined desire is not only the daughter of their family enemy but, practically engaged to a prominent duke as well—Jacks gate crashes a masquerade ball to meet his supposed match, Miss Sophie Fortin.

Unfortunately and fortunately, for Jack, Sophie Fortin is not the docile doormat/title hunter that he expects to meet, but instead is a lovely young woman with a big heart, caught in the net of family loyalty and obligation.

Right from the start Jack’s inner “knight in shining armor” is awakened and whether Sophie turns out to be his ultimate match or not, he becomes determined to save her from a joyless future, even if it means facing down the past and taking on a role he swore to forsake.

Readers will no doubt love riding along as a spectator on Jack and Sophie’s long and winding journey to a “Happily Ever After”, as it is filled with the emotional pitfalls, passion, courage and sacrifice that the great Bard, himself would surely appreciate.
