Review

Sophie Barnes sparkles with talent in her new Cinderella-esqe debut of the new At Kingsborough Ball series—THE TROUBLE WITH BEING A DUKE.

“Sometimes happily ever after…

Anthony Hurst, Duke of Kingsborough knows the time has come for him to produce an heir. But first he must find a bride. When he meets the most exquisite woman at his masquerade ball, he thinks his search is over…until the breathtaking beauty runs off. With few clues other than her figure, her scent, and the memory of her kiss, Anthony must find his mystery lady.

…needs a little bit of help.

Isabella Chilcott can scarcely believe it: she is finally at the Kingsborough Ball. As a child, she dreamed of dancing a waltz here and now, thanks to a gorgeous gown she’s found in the attic, Isabella is living her fairytale fantasy. And she’s waltzing with the Duke of Kingsborough himself! But she must escape before he discovers her secrets…for she is not who she pretends to be, and falling in love with Prince Charming is the last thing she can allow herself to do…”

Isabella lives in a state of genteel poverty, almost-engaged to a man she can barely tolerate and dreaming of a fairy tale romance that will never happen—until it does.

Ms. Barnes has written a sharp, humorous and sexy homage…

Vowing to take one glorious night for herself before settling down in a marriage of loyalty and not love, she sneaks inside the Kingsborough Ball and immediately attracts the attention of the resident Prince Charming.

After the death of Anthony’s beloved father, this former rake is determined to be the man his father would have wanted him to be and that means finding a bride, whether he wants to or not. When he meets Isabella they make an instant connection and suddenly getting married doesn’t seem so bad afterall.

Unfortunately, before Anthony can find out who that masked mystery woman is, chaos ensues at the ball and she slips away.

With all the charm of the Cinderella story we all know and love, Ms. Barnes has written a sharp, humorous and sexy homage with some great plot twists that also make this story very unique.

I loved Anthony and Isabella to pieces and really look forward to the next romantic adventure begun at the Kingsburough Ball when THE SCANDAL WHEN KISSING AN HEIR comes out this December!
