Review

If you haven’t paid a visit to New York Times Bestselling author, Elizabeth Hoyt’s Maiden Lane series yet, you really…really should!

SWEETEST SCOUNDREL brings together two of the unique and memorable characters we’ve been given glimpses of before within the pages of earlier Maiden Lane stories and wanted to get to know better. Now the boisterous owner of Harte’s Folly, Asa Makepeace and the sneaky Duke of Montgomery’s “man of business”/half-sister, Eve Dinwoody—a most unlikely pair, if ever there was one—are thrown together in a sensual, deeply emotional adventure that climbs off the pages and into your soul.

SHE’S TAKING CHARGE

Prim, proper, and thrifty, Eve Dinwoody is all business when it comes to protecting her brother’s investment. But when she agrees to control the purse strings of London’s premier pleasure garden, Harte’s Folly, she finds herself butting heads with an infuriating scoundrel who can’t be controlled.

HE’S RUNNING THE SHOW

Bawdy and bold, Asa Makepeace doesn’t have time for a penny-pinching prude like Eve. As the garden’s larger-than-life owner, he’s already dealing with self-centered sopranos and temperamental tenors. He’s not about to let an aristocratic woman boss him around . . . no matter how enticing she is.

BUT LOVE CONQUERS ALL

In spite of her lack of theatrical experience-and her fiery clashes with Asa-Eve is determined to turn Harte’s Folly into a smashing success. But the harder she tries to manage the stubborn rake, the harder it is to ignore his seductive charm and raw magnetism. There’s no denying the smoldering fire between them-and trying to put it out would be the greatest folly of all . . .

Rough around the edges and more prone to slug an adversary than argue, Asa has a violence inside of him that would typically send Eve running for cover. But there is something about him, something that despite all the reasons to the contrary that say she should stay away, Eve feels drawn to instead which only makes matters more confusing the more time they spend together.

…I highly recommend that you add to your collection!

A dark and traumatic event in her past has left Eve frightened of men—as well as dogs—and it doesn’t help that her brother is one of the most despised men in England. When she is put in the position to oversee the Duke’s financial investment in Harte’s Folly, Eve must begin to face those fears if she ever hopes to have a chance at a normal life and maybe even a chance at getting to know the elusive Asa more intimately.

This Yin-Yang couple shouldn’t work, but in a perfect instance of opposites attracting, Eve and Asa each possess something that the other needs in their life to make them whole and when love enters the mix, anything is possible.

Another stellar work by the amazing Elizabeth Hoyt and another Maiden Lane treasure I highly recommend that you add to your collection!
