ONE NIGHT WITH THE LAIRD, by author Nicola Cornick is the second book in her new The Scottish Brides series and a total delight!

“A night of no return…

Lady Mairi MacLeod is young and beautiful, and fashionable Edinburgh’s most flirtatious hostess. But within the merry widow beats a grieving heart and she mourns the loss of her husband and the secrets she must keep. Desperately seeking to forget, she spends one night with Jack Rutherford, an accomplished rake, but their wanton night together is an encounter of the body only, and Lady Mairi would prefer to forget it.

A strong protector…
When Mairi is threatened by blackmail, Jack is the only man who can help her. As they work together to uncover where the danger lies, their passion reignites. Little by little, the masks they wear burn away, and their most private secrets come to light
.”

The sparks between Mairi and Jack that began to fly in the first book, ONE NIGHT WITH THE LAIRD, have become a slow, burning ember when their story resumes some months later, before exploding again during a night of passion between two “strangers”.

Unaware that the mystery woman he took to his bed—and can’t seem to forget—was none other than the woman he most loves to hate, Jack reluctantly agrees to provide safe escort for Lady Mairi, fully expecting to be turned down.

…the result is a romance lovers dream come true.

The fates, by way of a mysterious blackmailer, force the couple into a charade where they must act the part of a loving couple, but soon the act starts to become all too real.

Jack and Mairi both have secrets that keep them from accepting the real possibility for love that has been right there with them since they first met and it’s only when they learn to trust each other with those secrets that “One Night with a Laird” can finally turn into a lifetime of happiness.

Couples who bicker and banter, while fighting against an explosive attraction are always my favorite kind of couples and the hero and heroine of this story do more than their fair share, so when the gloves finally do come off, the result is a romance lovers dream come true.

I truly hope that there will be more installments to come in The Scottish Brides series, as I for one, will definitely be adding those to the Nicola Cornick shelf in my library.
